Caramel Apples recipe

A tried and true snack that is a hit with Halloween fans of all ages, caramel apples are as easy to make as they are delicious! Get your family to join in the fun by unwrapping caramels and preparing apples. Younger kids will enjoy watching you dip the apples into caramel, while older children may enjoy rolling the completed apples in peanuts!

Ingredients:

  • 6 large, firm apples
  • 6 wooden sticks
  • 14 oz package caramels
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Prepare caramels by unwrapping each candy and placing in a bowl. Set aside.

  2. Cover a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil and grease lightly.

  3. Wash apples and remove stems. Insert wooden sticks ¾ of the way into the stem of each apple. Place apples on a cookie sheet and set aside.

  4. In medium saucepan combine caramels and water over low heat. Cook, stirring constantly until caramel melts and mixture is smooth. Add vanilla extract and cook for 10 more seconds, stirring. With mixture over low heat, dip each apple into the caramel and gently run apples around the inside of the saucepan to remove excess caramel.

  5. Roll in nuts if desired. Place on cookie sheet and chill until ready to serve. Serve cold.
